NWTACI on CBC, June 3, 2025

We were interviewed by Hilary Bird on CBC North’s the Trailbreaker on June 3, 2025. We had the chance to share about our upcoming Akaitcho Hall Gathering.

It has been more than thirty years since Akaitcho Hall closed its doors. Hundreds of Indigenous children were forced to live in the residence while attending school in Yellowknife. A local organization is looking at putting an arts centre on the lot that once housed Akaitcho Hall. Now, they want to know what survivors and the public think. Sara Kormanisky is a development specialist for the NWT Art Centre Initiative and Crystal Fraser is a Gwichyaa Gwichʼin scholar and is a consultant working with the project. They both joined Hilary Bird. - CBC North, Trailbreaker
